ALL THINGS ATHLETIC

Natrona County High School Athletic Philosophy! Natrona County High School believes that participation in athletics provides a wealth of opportunity and experience that assists students in personal growth, self-expression, mental alertness, and physical growth. The Natrona County Athletic Department strives to provide a positive environment dedicated to achieving excellence in athletic and academic performance. Participating in athletics inspires personal development that prepares student-athletes to contribute to society in a lasting and meaningful way.

Athletics play an important part in the life of Natrona County High School! Young people learn a great deal from their participation in interscholastic athletics. Lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, competition and how to win and lose gracefully are an integral part of each team in our athletic program. Athletics also play an important part in helping the individual student develop a healthy self-concept as well as a healthy body. Athletic competition continues to add to our school spirit and helps all students, spectators as well as participants, develop pride in our great school.

Freshman Football at NCHS: Exciting news!  NCHS Freshmen have an unparalleled opportunity.  We are the only school in Wyoming that puts the kind of emphasis and TLC into our Freshmen Program.   We commit our staff, our financial resources, and the mentorship of our older players into making our Mustang Freshmen Experience a complement to our hugely successful "Freshmen House" Academic Program.  We know that Freshmen who have a successful freshman year are set on a trajectory that will help ensure a successful high school career.  We have new uniforms and equipment. We have two evenly divided teams to maximize playing time.  Both of our teams compete for the Geldein Conference Championship. This is a great opportunity for you to grow. You will have excellent leadership from your older teammates as well as excellent coaching; you will be well taken care of.
We don't cut players, we simply buy more equipment.  Everything is in place to make this the best Freshmen Football Experience in America. GO MUSTANGS!

NCHS Volleyball
Our NC Volleyball Coaching Staff loves volleyball and coaching. We are motivated to do as well as we can and to do whatever we can to make the team successful. We will provide you with every opportunity to be as good as you want to be, to grow as an athlete and as a person. We want you to be confident in yourself and know that there is no obstacle that you cannot overcome with hard work. We want you to understand and learn the meaning of team: commitment, discipline, responsibility, and hard work.

Our goals for each athlete in the volleyball program are that she is prepared to play at a higher level, understands the game of volleyball, and has experiences that will help her in situations she will face in everyday life. Natrona volleyball players are respectful, dedicated, responsible, resilient, and competitive. The Fillies Coaching Staff wants each athlete to further develop those qualities. Athletics is a great tool for building character. Take advantage of this opportunity and try out for a volleyball team at Natrona.

Natrona plays in the competitive 4A West Conference that includes Evanston, Green River, Kelly Walsh, Rock Springs, and Riverton. In 2007, our varsity finished with a State Championship and in 2008 our varsity finished with an undefeated Conference Championship and as State 4A Runner-up. 2009 included the addition of multiple freshmen teams as 9th grade assimilated into our high school. In 2014, our varsity finished as State Champions again! Our program consists of 7 teams, 4 of which are Freshmen teams. We are excited about building on the strengths of those teams in 2014-2015.

NCHS Cross Country Team pursues perfection of the body, mind, & spirit!
The mission of the Natrona County High School Cross Country Team is to become the best team of athletes possible, given our individual abilities. We also subscribe to the Roman ideal of happiness. The ancient Romans believed that true happiness can be attained in life if you are in constant pursuit of the perfection of the body, mind, and spirit. We strive for this balance as well. We welcome athletes of all abilities, provided each is willing to work hard and support their fellow athletes. We work hard and have fun doing it. If you are interested in going out for the team, contact Coach Sondag.

Fall & Spring Golf Opportunities For Girls & Boys! NCHS Golf consists of two seasons, the fall and the spring, for both boys and girls. The fall golf season lasts 6 weeks, starting in mid to early August, and the spring season lasts 8 weeks, starting in late March to early April. In the fall, the boy's team typically consists of 12 golfers, with tryouts consisting of 2 days of playing and at least 3-4 freshmen. The girl's team usually has between 5-10 girls, with all girls that try out making the team. Spring Golf is a more developmental time, with more practices and no cuts. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Head Coach Andrew Kennedy.

NCHS tennis players have fun and work hard! Whether you are completely new to tennis or have played for years, there is a spot for you on our team. The spring season is our training season, where the match play is recreational and there are no varsity and JV divisions. We also welcome all 8th graders who will be incoming freshmen in the fall to come train with us during the spring season. The fall season is a blur of matches and tournaments that begins the second week of August and ends with our State Tournament the last weekend in September. Ten boys and 10 girls play on our varsity teams. Our JV teams have no cuts, and we offer JV tournaments throughout the fall season. Our team values unity and includes everyone, so don’t hesitate to come try it out! Contact Coach Mike Akers with any questions. See you on the court!

NCHS Philosophy of Wrestling!
The NC Wrestling Coaches believe successful wrestling is based on these attributes towards making the program its best: effort, technique, intelligence, strength, and quickness. NC believes in a highly intense style of wrestling that places wrestlers on the defensive. The aggressive style of wrestling focuses on dominating the opponent physically and mentally. The Natrona wrestler does not cease the pressure and remains in the opponent's face for the duration of the match. The NC wrestler must use all of these attributes to maintain this aggressive style of wrestling. A true Mustang champion must work harder, have discipline, and remain focused for the entire match and season to fulfill his dreams.

The NCHS girls' track and field program is a unique opportunity to participate in a team sport with emphasis on individual success.  The indoor track season is 9 weeks long and runs from early January to early March.  In indoor track, athletes can participate in up to four events, including the 55 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1600 meters, 3200 meters, 55 meter hurdles, 4x200 relay, 4x400 relay, 4x800 relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, and shot put.
The best part about track & field is that there are no cuts.  Everyone makes the team!  If you are willing to work hard, be dedicated, and improve your athletic skills in a way that will transfer over to every other sport you participate in, then track & field is for you. There is a lot more to track than just running, but you have to try it to find out for yourself.

The Natrona County High School Dance Company performs for all home football games, basketball games, pep assemblies, homecoming, state dance competitions, and much more!  The team spends quite a bit of time preparing their routines to make the NC community proud.
Dancing to popular songs, the NCDC provides powerful entertainment to the athletic fans as they showcase not only their dance moves but their synchronicity as well.

Head Cheerleading Coach:
Christina Baker
Assistant Cheer Coach:
Ali Kopp

Cheerleading is a sport that involves dance, gymnastics, stunting, and crowd involvement. Being part of the NC cheerleading squad requires cheerleaders to represent the school at all times. NC cheerleading is all about being in front of the crowd and making the fans excited to be there. To be an NC cheerleader means to be athletic, respectful, and to maintain a high GPA!

The state cheerleading competition is in March, and the NC cheerleaders bring their best. Throughout the years, NC cheerleading has improved and will continue to be a more competitive squad in the state of Wyoming!
